Lothian Junior Chess are pleased to host the 2026 Scottish Girls' Championships on behalf of Chess Scotland
The tournament is open to girls of school age and will have 3 sections:
Open to all girls in P5 or Under
Open to all girls of Primary School age. Mostly P6 & P7 but younger girls can 'play up'
Open to all girls of school age. Mostly Secondary School age but younger ones can ‘play up’
For the Scottish Girls' Championships there is a single winner in each section. If necessary the following tie-breaks are used to ensure an outright winner:
Scottish Titles will only be awarded to players who have satisfied Scottish eligibility conditions.
Time control: 20 minutes plus 5 seconds per move. Default time 10 minutes
Grading: Games will be graded on the Chess Scotland Allegro Grading list
Entry: £15 until 23rd May after which late fees apply, see above

Supervision
Players are only supervised whilst in the playing hall and therefore Lothian Junior Chess events are not drop off events. Parents/carers are responsible for their children between games and are therefore expected to stay on-site or make a private arrangement for the supervision of their children. For this event there is a spacious waiting area for parents
Catering
Catering will not be available at the venue.

Discounts
Lothian Junior Chess will subsidise entry to this tournaments to players who are entitled to free school meals because their family is on a low income. If this applies to you please send us a message using the contact tab.
Accessibility
All areas are accessible, but please let us know in advance if anyone attending cannot manage stairs so we can check that the arrangements meet your needs.
Photography: We would like to take photographs during this event for use by Chess Scotland and Lothian Junior Chess in publicity and reports, including on our websites and social media channels. Please let us know before the event if there is anyone coming whose photograph you would not wish to be used in this way
