Time control

All moves in 60 minutes, plus 30 seconds per move increment from move 1.

Entry Fees & Donations

Standard entry fee (for ECF members at ECF GOLD or PLATINUM level: £50.

For Silver/Bronze-level ECF members or non-ECF members, there is a rating surcharge of £12. Therefore, it is strongly advised to purchase a GOLD membership from ECF as a minimum, even if you only play occasionally.

Payment by online payment.

It is not mandatory to donate, however, any contribution is most welcome.

Prizes

  • 1st prize £200
  • 2nd prize £100
  • Top junior £50
These prizes will be shared in the event of a tie and only one top prize can be claimed should won more than one. There will not be a formal Prizewinner Ceremony. A comprehensive list of Prize winners will be published on the Congress' website shortly following the tournament.


Entries details

  • FIDE Rating must be below 2400 as per September 2023 FIDE published list. (https://ratings.fide.com/)
  • We welcome any ECF rated player but must have FIDE rating below 2400
  • We have a maximum of 30 entries and therefore ensure you are registered at the earliest

Conditions of Entry

Players entering the tournament agree thereby to abide by the Competition Rules and the decisions of the controllers.
Players agree to their rating information and results being published on the ECF and Oxted Congress websites and the Chess-Results.com website.

Depending on the circumstances, the organisers have the right to reject entries, to transfer entries and to adjust prize money.

A ½ point bye may be requested in advance, except in round 5.

If your opponent has not arrived within 30 minutes of the start of a round they will be defaulted and you should report to the Controller’s desk for repairing.

Players wishing to withdraw or change a ½ point bye request should advise the Control Desk as soon as possible ahead of pairings being made for the next round.

Disputes
In the event of a dispute during their game, a player should stop the clock and summon an arbiter.

The Chief Arbiter's decision in all matters is final.

Electronic Devices
A player must not use any electronic device during a game without the controller’s explicit permission. Although players may keep such devices with them at the venue, they must be fully switched off (not merely muted) in the playing area during playing sessions.

Electronic devices must not be carried on the person during a game but may, for example, be kept in a bag on the floor. These rules apply at all times during playing sessions.  In particular, a player whose mobile phone sounds during a game will forfeit the game.

  • The venue is located few minutes’ walk from Oxted railway station
  • Direct trains from London Victoria (VIC) as well as London Bridge (LBG) to Oxted (OXT) is available
  • London Bridge to Oxted train journey takes around 30 minutes.
